Today was next time. Went there prepared, but one camera broke down (err 99…) , and the other (that could take video) was devoted for photos. Made a couple of short clips, but nothing artistic. It is either video or photography really. And the other thing was the crowd! It was so packed I had to stay on a spot to get some photos near the water. Some times you win, some times you lose…
Have an H1 zoom for better sound but it is just annoying if you take photos as well.
Thank you though! Maybe we can work on such a project together!
This year the weather was much better. No rain, rather warmish and of course the crowd was there to make things difficult for photographers! Also a surprise visit of the Archbishop of Greece at the Rafina church (and the necessary vultures – politicians) made it more formal than usual. Oh, well. Next year…
Makes me want to be there. People sharing the joy of life. I will read your other comments so that I can understand this event better. Beautiful and so happy to be with friends and family.Wow
I guess these things happening once a year and being really spectacular even with today’s standards, were the main point of the older generations, when distractions from TV, internet etc, were non-existent. In Greece there are many places that keep or revive these traditions. I wish I had the means to travel Greece and at least offer you photos! In time.
This is awesome story!
Next time, if you using Cannon, make a video and with little editing – a fantastic story! I was surprised!
And try to have a sound guy!

I especially like the 2nd shot where the kid is looking back.
One of the first on this blog almost a year ago! The first communion, on the 6th of January 2013! Thank you!
Some cold and windy day! These guys are really brave/crazy!

Beautiful photographs and memories for your children.
Children have their own life and ways to create memories, if I remember correctly, from my years as a child!
Yes, this is true.
Excellent document, Vassilis.!!
Thank you Carlos!
Wow, what a moving series of photos!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
They told a moving story about family, culture and tradition.
Yes, you are right! Thank you for noticing! These are the highlights of a year, right from the start!
What a warm person you are. Loving and with an eye for beauty. I quite like you, can see you through your pictures.
Bursting with life!
They really do! Not even the cold water can slow them down!
fascinating ritual.. you took us to Greece for a few minutes!
Thank you! Unfortunately our politicians seem to try to drive us out of Greece!
Excellent Vasili!
